It lasts for a couple of minutes and then goes away and does not happen for the rest of the journey. There is no sign of any oil leakage under the car and oil loss is not noticeable.

Clutches and exhausts are particularly prone to giving off a burning smell. If it hasn't gone away after a couple of hundred miles book it in to make sure nothing else is getting warm.
